The Licking County Settlers rebounded from their first two game losing streak with strong pitching in a 7-1 win over the Stark County Terriers.  In the derby between the two "county" organizations, the Settlers (5-3) scored in each of the final four frames en route to their second ever win against the Terriers (5-5).

Eric Best (Ohio State University) (1-0) collected the win in five innings on the mound, striking out five and allowing the only run.  Kyle McMillen (Kent State University) and Jarad Miller (Valparaiso University) combined to face one batter over the minimum in the final four innings.

At the plate, the offense tallied two unearned runs in the sixth to take the lead for good, with Steve Davis (Coastal Carolina University) helping the cause with a pair of runs.  John McCambridge (Xavier University) drove in a pair on his multi-hit afternoon.  Licking County maximized their opportunities, scoring their seven runs on only eight hits.

The win lifts the Settlers to 1-1 in their span of seven games in six days, which continues on Thursday, June 25th from Don Edwards Park when Southern Ohio visits for a 7 p.m. contest. All the action can be heard right here beginning at 6:50 p.m. with the Settlers Pre-Game followed by the opening pitch.

Licking County fell to Xenia by a score of 11-7 for their first home loss of the 2009 campaign.  An early pitcher's duel turned into a run-fest in the latter stages with the Scouts (5-5) getting the better of Settler relief on the night.

Starter Tommy Shirley (Xavier University) impressed with eight strikeouts in 4.1 innings of work.  He turned the game over to a pair of relievers who saw Xenia pour across six runs in two innings.  The Settlers countered with five of their own in the bottom of the fifth, highlighted by a Kyle McMillen (Kent State University) two-RBI single.

Aaron Hammons (Ball State University) (1-1) battled for 2.2 innings, eventually giving up the go-ahead run in the eighth. Licking County (4-3) could not recover from a ninth inning defecit, stranding two of their nin men left on base on the evening.

Brian Kordal enjoyed a night where he scored twice on a hit and two walks to headline the Settler offense.

Licking County hits the road on Wednesday, June 24th for a trip up to Canton, Ohio and a meeting with the Stark County Terriers.  Opening pitch is slated for 5 p.m. with the Settlers Pre-Game beginning at 4:50 p.m.  Click here to listen to all the action.

The Licking County Settlers' list of alumni playing in the professional ranks grew one name longer with 2008 Settler right-handed pitcher Collin Brennan signing with the Gateway Grizzlies of the Frontier League.  Brennan wrapped up his collegiate career with Bradley University in the spring, signing with the independent-league team after he went undrafted in the 2009 MLB Amateur Draft.

Brennan joins former teammate Rob Scahill among the recent Settlers to make their professional debuts, as Scahill looks to climb the Rockies organization after earning an 8th round selection earlier this summer.  Scahill begins his journey in Tri-City (Wash.), as part of the Northwest League (A-Short Season).

Eric Arnett also kicks off his professional career with the Milwaukee Brewers rookie squad in Helena (Mont.) after being taken as the 26th overall pick in the 2009 draft.
