Monday, 05 January 2009

With 2009 here and the summer right around the corner, the Licking County Settlers have set their coaching staff for the fourth season of Settlers baseball.

Returning at the helm for the Navy and Red in his second season will be Kyle Sobecki.  In his first year as manager, Sobecki led the Settlers to their best season in organization history.  He brings his extensive experience from his time with the Division I Youngstown State University Penguins.

Joining Sobecki from last year's staff are Brian Meyer and Kory Hartman, completing the staff with the same trio that led Licking County in 2008.   Meyer enters his second year with the Settlers, while also serving as assistant coach of Division III Otterbein College.

Hartman has been with the organization since its inception in 2006, while also coaching the pitching staff for the NAIA Ohio Dominican Panthers.

Three Licking County Settlers earned post-season recognition for their performance during the 2008 season by making the Second Team All-GLSCL.  John McCambridge (Xavier University), Steve Rosado (North Florida CC), and Jeremy Hazelbaker (Ball State University) all garnered attention as GLSCL standouts this season.

McCambridge and Hazelbaker tied with the league lead in stolen bases, each collecting 20 on the year.  McCambridge also boasts a .313 batting average on the year, while Hazelbaker was tied for the team lead and organization-best four home runs with four.

Rosado led all Settlers with a .340 batting average with 53 hits and 13 doubles.  Rosado joined Hazelbaker on the GLSCL midseason All-Star team.

The Settlers ended the year with a 19-21 record, setting a new organization mark with those 19 wins.  Licking County wishes the best to this trio, as well as all the Settlers as they return to school in the upcoming fall.
