The Licking County Settlers saw their three game winning streak snapped at the hands of the Stark County Terriers Monday night by a 7-5 score. In their home finale, the Settlers left the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth as their comeback attempt fell short. Matt Suschak (University of Toledo) (0-3) took the loss in 4.1 innings of work, while the bullpen kept the deficit minimal over the next 4.2. Meanwhile, the offense was highlight by two strong innings in the third and fourth, where the Settlers did all their damage. Kyle Klee (Binghamton University) tallied a two-RBI single that gave the Navy and Red their only lead of the contest. Then, in the next inning, Jeremy Hazelbaker (Ball State University) collected an RBI on a single, where he would later come around to score the tying run. Hazelbaker also had three hits on the night, joining Tyler Martin (Kent State University) and John McCambridge (Xavier University) as Settlers who reached safely three or more times. Martin drew three walks, a HBP, and a double for a perfect night at the plate. With the loss, the Settlers fall to 13-16, as they begin their 11 game road trip to end the season. It begins Tuesday night when they travel to Lima to take on the Locos for a 7 pm opening pitch. The game can be heard LIVE here on settlersbaseball.com. |

The Licking County Settlers were able to exact a bit of revenge on the Lake Erie Monarchs, using strategic small ball to take two games on the road by idenitcal 4-2 scores. In game one, the Settlers tallied two early runs thanks to a Jon Moore (Purdue University) sacrifice moving two Settlers into scoring position, where they would later score on RBI's by John Turk (University of Akron) and Sam Sivilotti (UW-Milwaukee). Sivilotti would score the go-ahead run later in the contest, before the Settlers tacked on a Jared Hoying (University of Toledo) run in the sixth. Collin Brennan (Bradley University) (3-1) picked up the win in another roller coaster ride. The righty gave up only three hits while striking out seven, but also gave up eight free passes on the afternoon. The defense came up big with a couple of hit-stealing defensive plays to keep the Monarchs off the board late in the game. Dan Scahill (Bradley University) came on in the seventh with the tying runs aboard but shut the door for his first save as a Settler. |
