A quartet of Licking County Settlers have been honored to represent the team in the 2008 Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League All-Star Game from Cincinnati's Western Hills High School on Wednesday July 16th. 

A pair of pitchers, Aaron Swenson (Youngstown State University) and Eric Van Matre (Ball State University), will make the trip.  Swenson has a 2-2 record thus far, and a sparkling 2.03 ERA while leading the team in innings pitched and starts.  Van Matre has been brilliant out of the bullpen, only allowing one run in 13.1 IP and six appearances out of the bullpen.

Joining that duo will be two position players, Jeremy Hazelbaker (Ball State University) and Steve Rosado (North Florida CC), both make return trips to the All-Star game.  The two outfielders have compiled great offensive statistics, with Rosado batting .351 and Hazelbaker at .333.  They are the top two run scorers on the team, while Hazelbaker leads the team in walks. 

The game will take place on Wednesday July 16th from Cincinnati. 

Settlers pitcher Collin Brennan (Bradley University) was named GLSCL Co-Pitcher of the Week for Week 3 of the season.  The honor was bestowed on Brennan on account of his strong performance against the Anderson Servants this past Sunday.  He compiled a two-hitter, giving up just one run in a 7-inning complete game. 

In the contest, Brennan also struck out nine.  He was selected in the 34th round by the Cleveland Indians in the 2008 Amateur Draft. 

Columbus pitcher Burney Mitchem shared the co-pitcher of the week honor with Brennan.

In what may go down as the most bizarre game of the season, the Settlers dropped a slugfest against the Xenia Athletes in Action 16-11.  The Settlers jumped out to a 6-1 lead early, but Xenia exploded for an 8 run third inning and never looked back. 

Amid all the hubbub, the Settlers got season high totals in hits (19), but also tallied their highest error count of the season (11).  A late rally for the Settlers fell short as they fell for the third time this season to the AIA.  Zack Yike (University of Akron) (1-2) took the loss for the Settlers. 

The Licking County Settlers have set dates for games against Grand Lake, Lima, Stark County, and Lake Erie.

The games are on the following dates:

July 13th @ Grand Lake 2 PM (Doubleheader) Celina, OH 

July 14th vs. Lake Erie 4:30 PM (Doubleheader) Don Edwards Park

July 21st vs. Stark County  7 PM Don Edwards Park

July 28th @ Lima 7 PM Lima, OH
