Pair of Former Settlers Find Frontier League Homes

A duo of former Licking County Settlers pitchers have joined the professional ranks, both as a part of the independent Frontier League.  Dan Remenowsky (Otterbein College) and Andy Clark (Franklin College) have signed contracts with organizations in the league, with Clark already paying dividends.

Remenowsky, an '08 graduate from Otterbein, wrapped up a stellar career with the Cardinals, being named Great Lakes Pitcher of the Year in NCAA Division III.  He compiled a record of 5-2 in his most recent campaign, striking out 57 in 60.2 IP.  He takes his skills to Windy City in the Frontier League, where he joins the defending league champion Thunderbolts.  Windy City is located in Crestwood, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago.  Remenowsky played for the Settlers in their inaugural year in 2006.

Andy Clark signed with the Florence Freedom, also of the FL, directly after wrapping up his senior campaign at Franklin College.   There, he set school records in wins and strikeouts, with 29 career wins and 269 K's.   Clark was part of the Settler organization in both the 2006 and 2007 seasons.  As of press time, Clark had already moved his professional win mark to 3-0.

Settlers Fall in Wild Finish

Mired in a long hitting slump, the Licking County Settlers rallied in the bottom of the ninth inning, only to see the tying run cut down at the plate in a 4-3 loss to the Cincinnati Steam.  The bats awoke in the last three frames, where the Settlers scored all three runs, but the all-important tying run was gunned down by Zach Hurley.

Jared Hoying (University of Toledo) highlighted the night with four hits and two runs scored, including a double and a triple, as the Settlers reached double-figures in the hit category for the first time in over a week.  Jeremy Hazelbaker joined Hoying with a strong night at the plate, going 3 for 5 with three singles and an RBI.

Settlers strand runners, come up short

The Settlers were able to snap their 17-inning scoreless streak with the first batter of the contest.  Jeremy Hazelbaker (Ball State University) took his first opportunity out of the park to give Licking County the early lead.  However, that would be the only offense of the night, as the Settlers stranded 10 batters on the night, losing to Xenia 6-1.

A rough outing from hurler Chris Smith (Ohio Dominican University) put the road team in a hole, when Xenia tallied 5 of their six runs.  A trio of relievers helped quiet the Athletes in Action bats, but the rally never transpired for Licking County, who have now dropped four in a row.
