Former Granville Settler Bobby Wright (Otterbein College) became the first former Settler to sign as a professional player when he was drafted and signed by the Gateway Grizzlies in May of this year. In 2006, in the Settlers inaugural year, Wright led the team in batting average with a .303 mark. He went on to bat .316 for his career with the Otterbein Cardinals, receiving first-team all Ohio Athletic Conference nods in 2005 and 2007. Wright was drafted by the Grizzlies in the first round of the 2008 Frontier League draft, and has since made appearances in four games for Gateway, a team based out of Sauget, Illinois. He has become the first former Settler to don a professional jersey, one of hopefully many more in the future. Gateway is part of the 12-team independent Frontier League, which has teams in seven states across the Midwest. Several big league players have come through the Frontier League en route to a Major League career, including current Baltimore Orioles closer George Sherrill and former world champion Angels pitcher Brendan Donnelly.
